No More Easter Bunny~

We believe children are a heritage of the Lord! We have grown to a family of 8 so far... Mom,Dad and 6 kiddos!
It has been in the last year or so that God had put things on my heart in regards to my family and the way we celebrate holidays meant for the LORD!

It seems that as our family size has grown, the cost of "celebrating" holidays and birthdays has cost more and more MONEY and gives me a logistical headache. So I asked myself....is this what GOD wants?

Putting together 6 Easter baskets cost about $80.00. Our house does not need cheap trinkets and ALL that candy. Don't get me wrong, this girl loves her candy! But do I need to spent so much money on candy? No way! Not anymore!
A few bags of our favorite candy on the Easter Brunch table will do just fine.

I also have a hard time finding the baskets from the year before and my hubby hates the plastic grass that goes in the baskets...the babies could choke on it and it makes a big mess on the rug!

I had to ask myself...Is spending money on "Bunny Baskets" honoring the Lord? Is it being a good steward of the money we have? The answer was clearly NO!

Don't get me wrong, I don't think people that do celebrate with baskets are going to H-E double hockey sticks or anything. I just think the more our family follows the Lord in letting him control our family size and our finances...He (the Lord) speaks to my heart to not waste money and time on things that don't matter.

Each time a child is birthed into our family the more I seem to need God! Or maybe I just seem to realize my need more. The logistics of everything changes the more children you have. I'm not sure those with fewer children know what I mean?

Lately I have been reflecting on my motives for celebrating things and what am I teaching my children. I don't have to give up on giving my children fun times and happy family memories!
We will just have ones that make sense in our walk with Christ and keep the focus on Him! We will just do things in a new way.

Easter is not the only holiday that we were wasting money on.
We changed our celebration of Halloween....you can read more about it here!

God was not being honored with our old ways of Halloween!

We no longer give birthday parties for the kids. We celebrate our children's birth together as a family with kind deeds, homemade cakes and a special meal for the birthday person. Good bye goody bags, cheap gifts that clutter and over priced cakes.

We will still have our family egg hunt on Easter!

Jesus died on the cross for our Salvation and on the third day he arose again and is seated at the right hand of the father. Eggs are a symbol of new life. Easter is a time of new life.... a rebirth of sorts!
After Lent we should be a changed person....created anew in Christ! There will be no talk of bunnies or will there be any baskets. Auntie will hide the eggs after Church and we all eat brunch at our house!

Happy Easter to all! Remember its a day to honor the Lord and what he did for us!

Peace in Christ,
Georgiann

A Trip To The Health Food Store!

This is the view as we drive home from the BIG city. We live about a 1 hour drive up into the foothills of the Mountain!
We went to a birthday party at a fun center in the city so I decided to stop in and get a few things at the health food store since we had driven so far!

We bought herbs to go into my flax seed warming packs that I make!
I also picked up some boxes of Earth Mama Angel Baby Herbal tea.

Cereal was on sale! Great cereal with out the health food store price!

We needed to pick up drinks for the long ride home!

The lotion testers are always fun! Which one should I try?
We ended up getting a lotion bar in a tin made with bees wax. The family that makes them is local to the area and has a bee farm.
We also got 2 bars of sweet smelling Goats Milk soap!

We also had fun smelling the candles and looking and all the organic cotton clothes on the clearance rack. None were in my size....I thing God was telling me something!
{No not that I need to loss weight....I just did not need any clothes!}

We had a very relaxing time strolling through the store....taking time to smell the flowers so to speak!
Jackie loved pushing the cart around the store and we all enjoyed the sounds of the soft music and smells of the organic deli food cooking in the cafe.

With every breath I took I felt more and more relaxed! The scent of food, herbs, candles, soaps and such filled the air! The girls were smiling, behaving and having a great time. Happy girls....Happy Momma!

What a beautiful day the Lord hath made, rejoice and be glad in it!

Prayer Request!

A fellow Catholic Momma of 5 kiddos is in need of our prayers. Her name is Elizabeth and she is being treated for breast cancer!
Elizabeth has a blog set up to report her goings on and progress of her cancer treatment!
Feel free to grab the "Pray For Elizabeth" button and spread the prayer chain. The button was graciously made by Michelle Q a friend of hers and momma of 10.

There is POWER in numbers and the Internet is a fast way to get the prayer request out!

So mom's lets rally with prayer in support of Elizabeth and her family for her healing!

I pray the Lord will comfort her mommy heart so she can focus on getting well!

Thank you!

Homemade Quesadilla Sammies~

Today was a fun day in the kitchen. I found this really yummy tortilla flour mix made by Quaker. It was on the flour isle and....you just add warm water to make the dough.

I used a dinner plate that was flipped over as my template for my tortilla size.
You can use a rolling pin or just your hands to flatten a 1 inch ball of dough.

Then cook in dry skillet on Med/Hi heat. No need for oil!

I topped the ones for the girls with cheddar cheese. For my little sammy I put canned turkey, cheese, cilantro and spinach! You can get creative! They taste way different than a store bought tortilla.

Last Friday I made a crock pot of homemade re fried pinto beans and the homemade tortillas for our meatless dinner. It was a hit! My teenager wanted to know when I was going to make it again!

I love being a mom! God has truely blessed me...in more ways than I can count!
It is right to give him thanks and praise!

I have such a great time cooking with the girls! I love making special meals and treats for ALL my kiddos! My children are such a blessing to me!
The girls and I also made a multi grain fruit muffin bread for the boys after school snack! I will post the pics. of that in a few days.

The sun is out today so its time to play outside for a bit before dinner!

Warmly,

Going Green!

When going Green we might think why bother?...the things I do can't change the world!
I'm here to tell you....
Every bit counts to make this world a better place! Change starts with us!

One thing I recently did was decide to not buy paper napkins and paper towels!
I had said that line before, but did not buy an alternative to wipe our faces at meal time. Cloth napkins are very spendy and I would need a lot! So after a short time we went back to paper towels.

I guess I thought we were just going to be neat little eaters....ALL 8 of us! Never needing to wipe our face again....even on spaghetti night! LOL Boy was I wrong:)

So this time around I came up with a new idea. I bought striped dish cloths from Walmart to use as napkins and for spills. (The dish cloths I use for cleaning are plain white.) A package of 7 cloths was $3.00. I bought 4 packs...so I spent $12.00 and have 28 cloths. Paper towels are about $8.00 and last about 1 month or less. So I will save $$$$ in the long run. Frugal and Green! YAH!

I also decided to buy a very small $10.00 trash can with a pull out bucket to but the dirty NAPKINS aka dish cloths in for laundry. The pull out bucket is small and easy for my 3 yr old to carry the soil cloths upstairs to the laundry room. (it also helps to keep them from getting lost in the laundry).

My 3yr old loves to help with anything and everything! She has been folding the dish towels and wash rags since she was 2. She is really lovin' her newest little chore!

So in honor of St. Patricks Day....what are you going to do to go GREEN?

Have a blessed weekend!

A Taste Of Spring!

Up here in the Great Northwest we get cold rainy weather clear up until May! We got snow a few weeks ago. Mostly its been high winds and rain. There were thunder storms a few nights ago.

A few days ago the sun made an appearance. It was a treat to feel the warm sun on my face. The sun stayed for about 3 hours. Then it cooled way down and a coat was needed.
I did get a taste of spring fever! I opened all the doors and windows and let the fresh air in.

Mean while.....

The girls and I went outside to plant all the primroses I bought back in Feb. for our Valentines dinner! Primroses are very hardy and will make a full recovery I'm sure!

Jackie and I hung the bird feeder she made from a paper towel roll, bacon grease and bird seed! I was hoping to get a picture of a bird on it but they were to quick!

The chickens have been enjoying the free range and will be producing eggs sometime this spring! They are only 8 or 9 months old! We have 3 hens but only 2 keep getting out! I need to trim their wings again!

Olivia had fun sitting on the trike. She felt like such a big girl! (Sister was still diggin' in the dirt and was not there to bother her). LOL

We all had a beautiful time being outside together and I'm now getting in gear to start some seeds indoors. Here in my state we have a very short growing season!
Most of the winter is spent indoors.

I took a deep breath of fresh air....and boy did it feel good!

Rejoice in the Lord for he is good!

Dream Big in Small Places!

This is one of my favorite 10 minute videos! I have posted it on my blog before and thought it was worth sharing again!

I want to get you inspired at what you can grow in your yard no matter how small!
Now is the time to get your seeds started indoors!

Lets make the most of the good earth the Lord has given us!

Even if you start out with a small container garden on a patio. Make this year your ground breaking!
